Q)
Hi there Jeff. Just getting some stuff ready for vacation. Keep reading your fishing reports and this last one you mentioned lead core line. I was thinking about some for my baitcaster to troll crankbaits. Do you think that would be a good idea to go ahead and do?
A) If you haven't already got it, don't spend a lot of money. Where we use it most is on the really deep lakes where lots of fish suspend over deep water. There are places on Winnie where it could work, but most of the time, crankbaits can be trolled along the weedline, on rocks or on the flats without using the lead-core.

Q) I've been following this drain plug deal. What are you doing with your leechs? I'd be interested to know how you solve this problem. I use to always keep lake water chilled in my fridge to change them with. If I use well water instead, how can I prove its not from the lake? Tommy
A) Tommy, So far we don't need to prove it, as long as the container doesn't have access that flows through to the lake like a livewell or baitwell. There was an amendment on the omnibus bill that would have required the water to be drained from all containers, but since the bill was vetoed by Pawlenty, we got an extra year to figure out what to do if that happens.
At this time, we need to drain the livewell, baitwell and bilge before leaving the landing.
All I do with my leeches is put them in one of those tall yellow leech lockers and keep them in a cooler with two of those blue ice packs. I have to change my water every day before I leave in the morning and when I get home in the evening, but this seems to be working fine for me.
I don't know if you've looked at my system for keeping the minnows, but this bait system works great!
I was just stopped by the DNR at the Mosomo landing on July 2nd and the whole setup passed the test.
If anything changes, I will make sure it gets into the fishing reports, but if you ever have a question, I'll do anything I can to help. - Have a great day, Jeff
